VK revealed the details of the Russian game engine – development plan, release dates and 1 billion rubles of investment


The publications Vedomosti and Kommersant reported that the VK company, as part of a special press conference, confirmed the start of work on its own open source game engine.

The concept of creating the engine was presented by CEO Vladimir Kiriyenko. According to him, VK will invest 1 billion rubles in the project. Earlier it was reported that the cost will be 2.8 billion rubles.
Development will take three to five years. Currently, VK is forming a team (it should include at least 100 specialists) and preparing the core of the engine (basic systems, tools).

According to the development schedule presented at the press conference, during 2024 VK plans to release a beta version of the engine and start working with the gaming community.
Integration and optimization of graphics rendering systems and the launch of a distribution platform are announced for 2025. The engine is going to be ported to different operating systems, mobile devices and consoles.

Kiriyenko added that the VK engine should allow “create any type of games”. The technology will be free for developers and will be used for education and training of specialists.
Earlier in February, the VK Play service announced the launch of the VK Play investment investment division, under which it will spend 300 million rubles to support Russian game developers.
