Modder Jonx0, who specializes in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has released a video demonstrating how FromSoftware’s fantasy action role-playing game Dark Souls 3 could look on the Unreal Engine 5 engine.

Recall that Dark Souls 3 is based on the same engine as the original Demon’s Souls (the remake was created using Bluepoint technologies), Bloodborne and the later released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice with Elden Ring.

Jonx0 decided to test how much prettier Dark Souls 3 could be with Epic Games’ latest engine. To demonstrate the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, the modder used the Cemetery of Ashes and the Temple of Fire — the starting locations of the game.

As PC Gamer notes, Jonx0 did not recreate the locations from scratch, but imported the map, character model and animations straight from Dark Souls 3. The modder tightened the textures using the Gigapixel AI neural network from Topaz Labs.

The main difference between Dark Souls 3 in the Jonx0 video and the original one is the advanced lighting of Unreal Engine 5. To maintain 60 frames / s (the scene was launched on the RTX 3070), the Lumen technology involved is not used to the maximum.

Viewers from the creation of Jonx0 were delighted and expressed their desire to purchase the version of Dark Souls 3 on Unreal Engine 5, if it ever comes out. «I would buy without hesitation»— wrote crab time.

The modder will continue to work on Dark Souls 3 on Unreal Engine 5 — Jonx0 will then take on the battles, models and enemy AI. You should not count on a full-fledged release, since the assembly contains materials from the original game.
