The Together Team, the team that created the Skyrim Together co-op mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has announced a similar project for Hogwarts Legacy. The authors have already published a video demonstrating the test assembly.
Currently, only one member of the collective, Yamashi, is working on a mod called HogWarp, but two of his comrades should soon join him. In an interview with a PC Gamer journalist, the modder said that the project is focused on co-op and role-playing. It is planned to implement support for up to eight users, but during development the limit may change.
According to Yamashi, he is now thinking through the main features related to animations, NPCs and the generation of several characters with different appearances. He does not intend to add special multiplayer content: the goal is to create “a stable framework that will allow people to enjoy the original game and possibly expand on it in the future.”
In the demonstration of the test assembly, two students move around Hogwarts (apparently at different times of the day). An early version is already available to contributors on Patreon, but the authors warn that while it “very primitive and full of bugs”.
In the comments to the video, users were surprised at the speed of the authors’ work. “I didn’t think it was possible,” confessed to HostileMustache. — Looks like modding has only one limit – the sky.”
As Yamashi explained, it was possible to create a test build so quickly thanks to the experience of working on Stray, which uses the same version of Unreal Engine – 4.27.2. He clarified that this is not a co-op mod for a cat adventure: using the example of last year’s game, he studied the features of the engine in order to start reverse engineering Hogwarts Legacy immediately after release.
This month, the developers hope to demonstrate to a wide audience the operability of the concept. All planned features will be implemented not earlier than in a few months. HogWarp will be distributed open source, so anyone can improve the mod.
In July 2022, the team released Skyrim Together Reborn, a redesigned version of their mod with improved netcode and support for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 1.6 and later. In theory, dozens of users can play together, but the creators are advised to limit themselves to eight. Reborn has over 440,000 unique downloads on Nexus Mods.
Hogwarts Legacy was released on February 10 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S. The action role-playing game will appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 4, and on the Nintendo Switch on July 25. The game received high marks from the media (Metacritic – 84-90/100). In the Valve store, it has a rating of 93% (over 66 thousand reviews in total), and online on the site it has reached 879,308 users (the second result among single projects).
Earlier, modder Praydog showed the first developments on the VR mode.
