Genshin Impact Ayato Guide – Best Builds and Tips

Kamisato Ayato is a 5-star Hydro character who debuted in Genshin Impact Update 2.6. He’s the current Yashiro Commissioner in Inazuma – and the older brother to Kamisato Ayaka. While kindhearted and loyal, the head of the Kamisato Clan is also said to be fiercely cunning and always one step ahead of the corrupt government officials that he is trying to bring down.
Here’s everything you need to know about Kamisato Ayato, including a full character overview, how to obtain Kamisato Ayato, combat details, which skills you should upgrade first, the best Kamisato Ayato builds, and much more.

Kamisato Ayato Character Overview

Kamisato Ayato is both the head of the Kamisato Clan and the Yashiro Commissioner. The dedicated government official is the older sibling of Kamisato Ayaka and mentor to Thoma. Ayato works tirelessly behind the scenes to protect his family and the people of Inazuma.

How to Get Kamisato Ayato

Kamisato Ayato is a 5-star character who made his debut in the Azure Excursion Event Wish banner with the launch of Version 2.6.
His debut banner ran from March 30, 2022 – April 19, 2022.
Ayato’s rerun banner runs from December 27, 2022 – January 17, 2023.
Every Wish banner in Genshin Impact runs under the “Pity” system which guarantees you a 5-star pull after a certain number of rolls, so if you don’t get him at first, keep trying!

Should You Wish for Kamisato Ayato?

The new 5-star Hydro hero packs a punch with his incredible Elemental Skill which has the Sword user launching a flurry of attacks in the blink of an eye. Ayato’s Elemental Burst also has a wide AOE range similar to Ganyu’s excellent Celestial Shower. The Yashiro Commissioner looks like a solid choice for those looking to fill out their Cryo or taser team comps.
It should be noted, however, that players under Adventure Rank 30 won’t be able to level him up as his Character Ascension Materials can only be accessed once you’ve reached Inazuma, which you can’t get to until you’ve completed the Chapter II: Act I – The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia Archon Quest at AR30. The Sword user needs Dew of Repudiation which can only be obtained by the Hydro Hypostasis located on Watatsumi Island.
So while you can Wish for Kamisato Ayato now, it’s worth noting that you may have him on the bench for a while until you get to Inazuma to grind for his Ascension Materials.

Kamisato Ayato Combat Details

In combat, Kamisato Ayato is a Hydro Sword user who can launch into a flurry of attacks with his Elemental Skill, Kamisato Art: Kyouka. The move not only coats every hit with Hydro, but increases his attack speed so substantially that players can land multiple hits on enemies in the blink of an eye. The skill also boosts his DMG based on his max HP.
Filling out his combat style is his Elemental Burst, Kamisato Art: Suiyuu. Similar to Ganyu’s Celestial Shower, Ayato drops a massive AOE attack that rains down Bloomwater Blades on opponents that deal devastating damage. Players inside the move’s area will also get an increase to their Normal Attack DMG which is a perfect setup for Kamisato to launch back into his Elemental Skill.

Kamisato Ayato Skills and Combat Priorities

Like the Raiden Shogun, HoYoverse has designed Ayato so that most of his combat heavily leans into his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst. As a result, players should level up his Talents in this order:
  • Elemental Skill – Kamisato Art: Kyouka
  • Elemental Burst – Kamisato Art: Suiyuu
  • Normal Attack – Kamisato Art: Marobashi
Type Name Effect
Normal Attack Kamisato Art: Marobashi Normal Attack:
Perform up to 5 rapid strikes.
Charged Attack:
Consumes a certain amount of dash forward and perform an iai.Plunging Attack:
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.
Elemental Skill Kamisato Art: Kyouka Kamisato Ayato shifts positions and enters the Takimeguri Kanka state. After this shift, he will leave a watery illusion at his original location. After it is formed, the watery illusion will explode if opponents are nearby or after its duration ends, dealing AoE Hydro DMG.
Takimeguri Kanka:
In this state, Kamisato Ayato uses his Shunsuiken to engage in blindingly fast attacks, causing DMG from his Normal Attacks to be converted into AoE Hydro DMG. This cannot be overridden.
• After a Shunsuiken attack hits an opponent, it will grant Ayato the Namisen effect, increasing the DMG dealt by Shunsuiken based on Ayato’s current Max HP. The initial maximum number of Namisen stacks is 4, and 1 stack can be gained through Shunsuiken every 0.1s. This effect will be dispelled when Takimeguri Kanka ends.• Kamisato Ayato’s resistance to interruption is increased.

• Unable to use Charged or Plunging Attacks.

• Takimeguri Kanka will be cleared when Ayato leaves the field. Using Kamisato Art: Kyouka again while in the Takimeguri Kanka state will reset and replace the pre-existing state.

Elemental Burst Kamisato Art: Suiyuu Unveils a garden of purity that silences the cacophony within. While this space exists, Bloomwater Blades will constantly rain down and attack opponents within its AoE, dealing Hydro DMG and increasing the Normal Attack DMG of characters within.
First Ascension Passive Kamisato Art: Daily Cooking When Ayato cooks a dish perfectly, he has a set chance to receive an additional suspicious dish of the same type.
Fourth Ascension Passive Kamisato Art: Mine Wo Matoishi Kiyotaki When Ayato uses his Elemental Skill and when the Water illusion explodes, he will get a set amount of Namisen stacks.
Passive Talent Kamisato Art: Michiyuku Hagetsu If Ayato is not on the field and his energy is low, he will regenerate a set amount of energy in regular intervals.

Kamisato Ayato Constellations

Kamisato Ayato already looks to be a solid DMG dealer, especially when pairing his powerful Elemental Skill with Artifacts that have great stats. Players really looking to buff the Hydro Sword user as a main DPS, however, have a few options with his Constellations.
His best Constellations to look out for are C2, C3, C5, and C6.
Constellation Name In-Game Description
Kyouka Fuushi (C1) The damage dealt by Ayato’s Elemental Skill is increased by 40% against opponents with less than half HP.
World Source (C2) The maximum amount of stacks available during Ayato’s Elemental Burst increases to five, and Ayato has his max HP increased in Genshin Impact by 50% when he has at least 3 stacks. This allows Ayato to get a significant health increase and deal more damage when using his Elemental Burst.
To Admire the Flowers (C3) Increases the maximum level of Ayato’s Elemental Skill by three, allowing it to deal significantly more damage.
Endless Flow (C4) All party members gain a 15% increase in Normal Attack speed after Ayato uses his Elemental Burst.
Bansui Ichiro (C5) Increases the maximum level of Ayato’s Elemental Burst by three, allowing it to deal more damage and give party members a more significant boost in attack DMG.
Boundless Origin (C6) After using his Elemental Skill, Ayato’s attacks each deal an additional two strikes, dealing 300% of Ayato’s ATK as DMG. This means Ayato gains a massive damage boost based on his ATK stat, meaning players with a C6 Ayato should focus more on raising his ATK.

Best Kamisato Ayato Builds

For most team builds, Kamisato Ayato is going to need to stay on the field for quite a bit of time as the effects of his Elemental Skill immediately go away once he is switched out. Because of this, the 5-star really benefits from having Support characters like Raiden Shogun, Bennett, or Ganyu who can apply their elements to set up an elemental reaction with his Hydro attacks.
The Sword user is also viable as a support for those only wanting to use his Elemental Burst as a setup for freeze comps such as Ganyu. Given its massive AOE, it’s a perfectly fine option. However, due to his high DMG output, fans of the Inazuma Commissioner will likely want to take advantage of his incredible Elemental Skill.

Best Weapons for Kamisato Ayato

Ayato’s general combat centers around him popping his Elemental Skill to convert his Normal Attack into a flurry of Hydro-applied hits. As a result, he really benefits from CRIT stats and anything that buffs his Normal Attack.
Because of this, the new 5-Star weapon, Haran Geppaku Futsu, is a perfect match. The sword’s main bonus is CRIT Rate, while its skill boosts Kamisato’s Normal Attack up to 20% after other teammates use their Elemental Skill. This is a natural synergy as most players will use Ayato in team comps that utilize Elemental Reactions anyway.
Another great option is the Primordial Jade Cutter. Similar to Haran, it boosts CRIT Rate while also giving an ATK % bonus. Where things get interesting is how it works with Ayato’s Elemental Skill. After using Kamisato Art: Kyouka, he generates a Shunsuiken which can stack up to 4 times. Once each Shunsuiken hits an enemy, it buffs Ayato’s DMG based on his total HP. Since Primordial gives him a 20% HP buff, this is a wicked combination that has great potential.
Since its debut, the infamous Mistsplitter Reforged has continued to rank as one of the best weapons in Genshin Impact. It should come as no surprise that the Sword that was designed for Ayaka also works incredibly well for her older brother Ayato. Its high CRIT DMG and massive Elemental DMG buff make it a devastating choice for those chaining elemental reactions.
Lastly, those not able to score any of the 5-Star options above should not be too bummed out as the Battle Pass weapon The Black Sword can easily match the game’s best Swords, especially with the right Artifact set. The paid reward buffs CRIT Rate, Normal Attack, and even heals Ayato, making it a triple threat that really synergizes with Kamisato’s build.
Weapon Name In-Game Description
Haran Geppaku Futsu • CRIT Rate +33.1%
• Obtain 12% All Elemental DMG Bonus. When other nearby party members use Elemental Skills, the character equipping this weapon will gain 1 Wavespike stack. Max 2 stacks. This effect can be triggered once every 0.3s. When the character equipping this weapon uses an Elemental Skill, all stacks of Wavespike will be consumed to gain Rippling Upheaval: each stack of Wavespike consumed will increase Normal Attack DMG by 20% for 8s.
Primordial Jade Cutter • CRIT Rate +9.6%
• HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the wielder’s Max HP.
Mistsplitter Reforged • CRIT DMG +9.6%
• Gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for a character’s Elemental Type. At stacks 1/2/3, Elemental DMG is further increased by 8/16/28%. Each stack has an individual duration and are gotten through Normal Attacks with Elemental DMG, Casting an Elemental Burst, Having less than 100% Energy (disappears at full Energy).
The Black Sword • CRIT Rate + 6.0%
• Increases DMG dealt by Normal and Charged Attacks by 20%. Additionally, regenerates 60% of ATK as HP when Normal and Charged Attacks score a CRIT Hit. This effect can occur once every 5s.

Best Free-to-Play/Below AR45 Weapons for Kamisato Ayato

Because Ayato relies so heavily on CRIT and DMG-based stats, free-to-play users and lower-level players have plenty of options. With the right Artifact set, you will still easily be able to shine with the 5-Star.
The craftable Amenoma Kageuchi increases ATK % while also providing Energy each time an Elemental Skill is used. Since users will be spamming Kamisato Art: Kyouka, it perfectly provides energy for Ayato’s Burst as well.
Players still below AR45 can utilize the Harbinger of Dawn to great effect. The free-to-play weapon packs a punch by buffing both CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate. It’s a great Sword to use until you are able to trade up for higher-level weapons further into the game.

Similarly, the Blackcliff Longsword provides an increase to CRIT DMG and a buff to ATK each time an enemy is downed. The powerful item can be obtained in Paimon’s Shop.
Weapon Name In-Game Description
Blackcliff Longsword • CRIT DMG +6.0%
• After defeating an enemy, ATK is increased by 12% for 30s. This effect has a maximum of 3 stacks, and the duration of each stack is independent of the others.
Amenoma Kageuchi • ATK +12.0%
• After casting an Elemental Skill, gain 1 Succession Seed. This effect can be triggered once every 5s. The Succession Seed lasts for 30s. Up to 3 Succession Seeds may exist simultaneously. Harbinger of Dawn • CRIT DMG +10.2%
• When HP is above 90%, increases CRIT Rate by 14%.

Best Artifacts For Kamisato Ayato

Since the Yashiro Commissioner is both a heavy-hitting main DPS and Hydro user, players actually have a handful of options when it comes to building up the Inazuma hero’s Artifacts.
For most players, the Hearth of Depth is probably the most consistent and accessible set to build around. Not only does it give a Hydro DMG bonus of 15%, but it also boosts Normal Attack by 30% after an Elemental Skill is used. Considering Ayato’s main mechanic is his Elemental Skill, this is an easy way to boost your Sword hits instantly.
The Gladiator’s Finale is also a solid Artifact to equip on the Kamisato sibling as it increases his ATK by 18% and actually guarantees that his Normal Attack DMG will be buffed by 35%. Both of the above options are reliable and incredibly powerful with the right stats.
The most interesting set, however, is Echoes of An Offering. Compared to other options, this one is technically more situational but has the potential to deliver the most damage for Ayato users. Each time a player hit an enemy while the item is equipped, there is a 36% chance to trigger a 70% Normal Attack DMG buff which is just epic. While the buff relies on a roll of the dice, the chances of it succeeding go up by 20% each time it fails and this check happens every 0.2 seconds. So basically, Echoes can really amplify Ayato’s Elemental Skill to high levels for those willing to farm the set.
Artifact Name In-Game Description
Heart of Depth • 2-piece effect: Hydro DMG Bonus +15%
• 4-piece effect: After using Elemental Skill, increases Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG by 30% for 15s.
Gladiator’s Finale • 2-piece effect: ATK +18%
• 4-piece effect: If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.
Echoes of An Offering • 2-piece effect: ATK +18%
• 4-piece effect: When Normal Attacks hit opponents, there is a 36% chance that it will trigger Valley Rite, which will increase Normal Attack DMG by 70% of ATK. This effect will be dispelled 0.05s after a Normal Attack deals DMG. If a Normal Attack fails to trigger Valley Rite, the odds of it triggering the next time will increase by 20%. This trigger can occur once every 0.2s.

Best Free-to-Play/Below AR45 Artifacts for Kamisato Ayato

Unlike the 5-Star options that focus more on Hydro and ATK bonus, the free-to-play options are more focused on buffing his Elemental attacks and supplying enough energy for his burst.
The Gambler not only increases Kamisato’s Elemental Skill DMG by 20%, but it also causes it to have a 100% cooldown rate after defeating an enemy. This will allow users to spam the insanely powerful move repeatedly.
Although not as high as others, Ayato’s Elemental Burst cost isn’t exactly low either. Players will need to have a recharge rate of at least 140% to be comfortable. In comes The Exile which instantly gives him a 20% Energy Recharge buff as well as adds the ability to generate particles after the hero uses his Burst.

Finally, The Berserker set offers up a 12% CRIT Rate bonus, which increases another 24% when Ayato’s HP gets low. This set is perfect for lower-level players who already have high CRIT DMG stats but need to fill out their CRIT Rate as well to ensure they are landing his powerful attacks.
Artifact Name In-Game Description
Berserker • 2-piece effect: CRIT Rate +12%
• 4-piece effect: When HP is below 70%, CRIT Rate increases by an additional 24%.
The Exile • 2-piece effect: Energy Recharge +20%.
• 4-piece effect: Using an Elemental Burst regenerates 2 Energy for all party members (excluding the wearer) every 2s for 6s. This effect cannot stack.
Gambler • 2-piece effect: Increases Elemental Skill DMG by 20%.
• 4-piece effect: Defeating an enemy has a 100% chance to remove Elemental Skill CD. Can only occur once every 15s.
