I explain how.
The ending of «Titanic» haunts fans even after 26 years. Why didn’t Jack get on the raft with Rose? There was enough room — he could survive! Or not?
To prove the adequacy of the finale, director James Cameron conducted an experiment. Together with National Geographic, he recreated the legendary episode: he filled a cold pool, built a raft door and hired stuntmen with about the same weight as the actors.
The results surprised everyone. Jack really could survive — but not in the way everyone thought.
First, the stuntmen were placed on a raft. They occupied different positions — and each time convinced scientists that Cameron was right. Because of the weight, the raft sank under water — as did the vital organs of the heroes. So Jack and Rose would not have waited for rescuers.
Then the stuntmen descended into the water and kept only the upper parts of the bodies on the raft. In this position, the muscles are constantly loaded, but with proper endurance, it is realistic to survive. But by that time the heroes had run across the ship, had a fight and almost died a couple of times. They could not withstand the load and died.
But the third option turned out to be working. At the end, Rose was wearing a life jacket, which should have been given to Jack. The girl lies on a raft, the young man easily holds his upper body above the water — and then rescuers arrive to help. Here it is, the recipe for a happy ending!
