Tomorrow, February 14, Soleil studio and 110 Industries publishing house will release the action movie Wanted: Dead. On the occasion of the imminent release, the IGN YouTube channel published an exclusive four-minute trailer.
The video showed fragments of the gameplay, as well as story scenes involving many characters, including Vivienne Niemantsverdriet (Stefanie Joosten) — Silent (Quiet) from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Wanted: Dead takes place in a cyberpunk version of Hong Kong, where «advanced weapons combined with low-tech futurism in the style of the 90s». Players will take on the role of Lieutenant Hannah Stone of the elite police Zombie Unit. The heroine must uncover a large-scale corporate conspiracy involving mercenaries, bandits and private military companies.
In battles, you will have to use melee weapons (there will be more than 50 finishing moves) and shoot from assault rifles, submachine guns, light machine guns and grenade launchers. The developers promise a hardcore action-style experience with PlayStation 2, GameCube, Dreamcast and the first Xbox: the game should simultaneously evoke nostalgia and offer a modern take on a well-known genre.
In a preview published in late January, IGN staff member Travis Northup admitted that the game has a charming resemblance to old-school action games and really challenges gamers in combat. He also noted a variety of secondary activities (eating ramen at speed, karaoke, slot machines). The journalist mentioned the unnatural voice acting (this feature was also noticed in the comments to the fresh trailer) and the insufficient elaboration of the models of individual characters, but these disadvantages did not spoil his overall impression. “I would definitely recommend her to friends who love retro games”he concluded.
The Soleil studio includes developers who have worked on the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series. In 2022, the team released the action RPG Valkyrie Elysium (it was released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in September, and on PC in November).
One of the most attractive features of the game users call old school. In the comments to the video, it is compared with Oni (Bungie West action game of 2001), Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. «What a breath of fresh air, — wrote imnotblindbutiloveblindfol8449. — I’m already excited.»
Wanted: Dead will be released on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. In early February, the developers promised to add a text translation into Russian after the release.
